Hip hop trailblazer Sway took the UK music scene by storm in 2005 with his independently promoted mixtapes "This Is My Promo" Vol. 1 & 2. Their release transformed the way the UK music-scene operated.
Signed to 3Beat in 2011, Sway's debut single for the label "Still Speedin' ...
" fast became Zane Lowe's "Hottest Record in the World". Sampling Loretta Holloway's "Love Sensation" and featuring Sway's signature word-play the single caused a huge buzz online with Lewis Hamilton backing the track on twitter. The track is taken from his forthcoming album "The Deliverance".
Now one of the most respected names in UK rap, mercury-nominated Sway - born Derek Safo has been a stalwart of the urban scene since the age of 16. Hes credited with opening the way for the likes of Tinie Tempah and Wretch 32. Back in 2005 Sway beat hip hop heavyweight 50 Cent to win Mobos "Best Hip Hop newcomer" without even having released an album! His debut album, also called "This Is My Promo" was released in 2006 to critical acclaim. The Independent called it "the best rap album in years." It won him a mercury prize nomination.
Off the back of the album came sell out tours across the US, Europe and Africa, as well as collaborations with artists as diverse as Akon, Kaiser Chiefs and Ian Brown. In his role as producer Sway nurtured unknown artists such as Chipmunk and Mr Hudson. "The Signature", his second album, was released in 2008.
And his talents don't end with fresh, inventive lyrics and eclectic, original sounds. Turning his hand to acting, Sway recently made a cameo appearance in Channel 4 drama "Top Boy".
