Sasha Involver 2 interview

Sasha Involver 2 - 3 Beat Records

Here is an interview with Sasha from movement magazine about Involver 2 which we’re all rather excited about in the shop. Quite an interesting read: ‘We caught up with Sasha this WMC during the Global Underground Involver2 party and asked him a few quick one’s about the new album. How is Involver2 going to be different from the last outing? This album is going to be a pure electronic album. The drums are pure 808s and 909s. It gets a four on the floor really quickly and stays there. The last album started off with a shimmery guitar record and went off into spanish guitars and ended up with Ulrich Schnauss at 140bpm. This record is much more leading and much more pure but really uplifting. You could say it’s more minimal but it is not a minimal record. Are you working with anyone new on this album. We’ve got Home Video, Apparat, Teflon Tel Aviv, M83, the track list is sick. How do you keep up with the change in sounds and managing to stay fresh? Well basically as a dj you play the best records that you have got at your disposal…and play what excites you the most and keeping playing and try to make best each set. What about as a producer are your techniques changing? All the time. I went out and bought about $2000 worth of guitar pedals and ever single sound I’ve got has been processed with a guitar pedal…To go through those is so much more statisfying then opening up a plugin and spending 5 hours with it. You have also been releasing tracks under your new label Emfire what been the driving force behind that? We have a lot of tracks that we finished we were thinking what should we do with these. Ten years ago we would have signed a record deal but there are no record labels anymore that want to sign deals so I figured why not just do my own. I don’t have an office its just downloads and a digital ep and it has a whole new track and feel to the releases of the track. Look for Involver2 release later this year.’

Mark Ronson - Nice Guy, Good DJ and very tall!

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I had the pleasure of DJ-ing with Mark Ronson on Satuday night @ Bandstand, and I was curious to hear what he would play, as I know he used to be a Hip Hop DJ and grew up in New York, but then I know the kind of music that he’d had hits with too… So all of the 3 Beat lads were very interested to hear him play…

Anyway, I was DJ-ing and playing mainly 80’s party dance (stuff like Colonel Abrahams - Trapped, Cameo - Word Up, Gwen Guthrie - Aint Nothing Goin On But The Rent etc) and then i dropped New Order - Blue Monday, which got an enormous scream from the crowd, proper hysteria… until I’d realised that a very tall man in a suit with a Massive top hat had walked on stage.. Ah.. It was Mark Ronson.. makes sense with the screams now! Ha Ha..

So Mark politely asks can he borrow my headphones, as his team of men set up Serrato for him (superstars often forget head phones, co-incidently Rob Da Bank had forgotten his too…) and he complimented me on my musical choice “I’ve been listening from the other room, you’ve been playing some great tracks, it reminded me a lot of a club that I used to go to in New York” he said, which made me smile…

So Mark comes on, and it musically made sense to me, he was playing upbeat Motown kind of tracks, Stevie Wonder, Supremes, and then stuff like his version of Valerie (which raises the roof of course) and then he drops in to old school hip hop party rockers like Walk This Way. By this time I’d had too much beer and cant remember too much else that he played!

He later went on upstairs and did the full live thing, and was rather good!

A Good night was had by all though

Steve Parry

a weekend off…

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

hi there. Rob Cain here.

For the first time in nearly 5 years i have a weekend to myself. I have no gigs what-so-ever. Now some of you may see this as a bad thing, i however am exstatic about it.

Im debating what to do with my evening, obviously my missus is going to be with me, so im at ends where to take her.

currently on the cards in ‘Bandstand’ which is run by ‘DJ Rob Da Bank’, this evening will feature a DJ set by ‘Mark Ronson’ ‘Kissy Sell Out’ & our very own ‘Steve Parry’. Its either this or i drop into liverpool glamourous nightclubs ’Society‘ or ‘Garlands‘…

so much choice.

I’ll probably end up in the ‘Grafton’
