The Return of Balearic?

I was reading an article on the Guardian website the other day (as you do) about the possible return of Balearic into clubland. I am a bit of a balearic boy myself (to say the least! haha, probably more like a balearic geek more like!).

The article explains the roots of balearic and who played what and when (basically DJ’s fusing house with rock and odd poppier (but obscure) tunes in the middle). DJ’s like Rampling and Oakenfold were on to it all after holidaying in Ibiza in the late 80’s and being influenced by a DJ called Alfredo.

Where as nowdays the spirit of balearic seems to be coming back with producers like Reverso 68, Todd Terje, Henrik Schwarz, Ashley Beedle, DFARune Lindbaek, Lindstrom and many others encorporating it into thier housey and more down tempo projets. Be it a slap bass, a cheeky 80’s sample or whatever, but its definately on its way back.

Some are even calling this sound (or parts of it) Nu-disco, which onbiosly is disco tinged (we’re not talking Ottawan - D.I.S.C.O. or the Village People here, proper disco like Paradise Garage for example).. but call it what you lie, its definately on its way back!
