Anthony Pappa launches new CD
Australian club DJ (and former DMC Australia champion) and all round nice guy Anthony Pappa is set to launch anew CD series, showcasing his phat club sound later on this year. 3 beat records customers’ new CD is called ‘Moments’ and is a journey mixed seamlessly by that man Mr Pappa. 3 beat caught Up with him for a little chat…
Tell us a little about the concept for this new CD…
It is a double cd with a third bonus disc, which is available when you purchase the cd with a code to download the bonus disc from the Internet. Musically the album is a blend of electronic music from house, tech house, prog house, minimal and techno.
How would you describe your musical sound at the moment? Pretty much similar to the sound of the album with the same blend of .house, tech house, prog house, minimal and techno I always play a variety of sounds when l dj. The bottom line for me is if it’s a good tune whatever style it may be and l am in to it then l will play it.
How do you see the musical sound developing in the future? I think that because of the many different styles of dance music that are around today and because many djs are now into so many different styles and being influenced by them all, music will continue to be innovative and exciting to listen to.
How do you think club land is in the
UK compared to how it used to be?
People have so much choice of clubs and other places to go to these days and they are very selective as to where they go. There is always so much going on and to choose from that l think that people sometimes take it all for granted and are spoilt for choice in this country. Therefore the club scene suffers because people will only go to the club when it suits them compared to in the past when clubbers went to a club that they were into religiously and many clubs had good numbers and were consistently busy.
And what about clubbing in the rest of the world? Now that’s a different story. Clubbers are a lot more up for it and really appreciate the DJ’s making the journey to their country to play and they love the music. Some of the countries abroad are still taking in the full DJ/Club experience and it is all fairly new to them so you can imagine how exciting it is not only for them but for the DJ’s as well because it’s something new and great.
Where are your favourite places to DJ? Argentina, Mexico, Japan and
Hungary.
Tell us about your new label…
The label is called Red Light District and is run by me and a good friend of mine Neil Evans. Basically we set the label up to have an avenue for us to sign and release tunes that we are both into and for me to release my own music on. The first release is a track we signed from
Argentina. Federico Epis – “Mare” which has an Anthony Pappa remix on the flip. The second release is my new single Anthony Pappa – “Outback” with remixes being done by Applescal and Darko Esser.
Is it nice to be back in the studio producing again?
Absolutely. I used to write music with Barry Gilbey from Choo Choo Records. The only problem was that he lives in Sheffield and l live down south and due to my hectic Dj schedule and constant touring it was always difficult to find the time to get to
Sheffield and produce with him. I am now working in the studio with a friend of mine Chad Jackson who lives down the road from me so the studio is now a lot more accessible to me and we are planning to make as many tunes as possible whenever we get any free time and when l am in the country. What’s next in the life for you?
Well there is my new record label to work on and to make tunes in the studio with
Chad. I also have a fortnightly radio show called “Moments” on proton radio www.protonradio.com and last but not least there is my DJ schedule to keep up with which takes me to various countries all over the world on a weekly basis so l think that all of the above will keep me very busy for a while and give me lots to crack on with.
Thanks Anthony, Good Luck with the album.
Cheers 3 beat!
